Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal first heard his call to duty in 2008, he joined the force as a detention officer in 2009 and eventually worked his way up to deputy.
Deputy Dhaliwal is the first Sikh deputy in the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. In 2015 he obtained permission to wear his turban and beard as part of his uniform, it made headlines as a victory for Sikhs everywhere, he became an icon, and inspired many other Sikhs to join the department.
Deputy Dhaliwal exemplified the teachings of Sikhism and is well known among his peers to be a true public servant. He used his position in the law enforcement to represent Sikhs. His father says Deputy Dhaliwal passed the exam to become Sergeant and take a higher pay, however Deputy Dhaliwal wanted to continue working with the public rather than take a desk job. Deputy Dhaliwal has touched the lives of many and is an inspiration to all Sikhs.
The Sikh Society of Central Florida is currently raising funds for the Dhaliwal Family. We are requesting you to please pledge any amount before Sunday to the email [email protected]. You will receive a receipt for tax purposes. SSCF will donate the entire amount collected on your behalf and collect it from you at a later date convenient to you.
